Anyone who buys hybrid vehicle would have their registration fee paid for by the Office of Energy Conservation in a first come first serve manner. The plan is expected to cover 200,000 purchases at a cost of approximately $500 each.
Dealers would give buyers a certificate they could use at the DMV to have their payment passed on to the Energy Office.
“It will be on a first come, first served basis because there is no way to allocate it out to the dealers,” Ramirez, a spokesman for the Energy Office, told the Nevada Senate Finance Committee.
The plan still needs to be approved at the federal Dept and a decision is expected in June.
